Notepad — Windows 98 Simulator
Notepad is the smallest text editor in Windows: no fonts, no formatting, a 64 KB limit in the early days. Windows 98 users used it for README files, quick notes and editing AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS and .ini files, and its F5 time stamp made it a poor man’s log book.
Notepad as it was in Windows 98: File, Edit, Search and Help menus, Word Wrap, Find and Find Next, and F5 to insert the time and date.
Text files are saved to the simulated C: drive and stay in your browser, so you can open them again later from My Computer or the MS-DOS Prompt.
